New Build Foundations in Worcestershire – Case Study

The project required the construction of foundations and substructure works for new residential dwellings on a housing development. The aim was to prepare a stable and accurately set-out base ready for the superstructure construction to follow.

Excavation of foundation trenches, installation of concrete strip footings and blockwork up to damp proof course level. Installation of precast concrete beams and concrete infill blocks to create a suspended block and beam floor system. Preparation of the floor structure ready for screed and the next stage of the build.

Works began with site preparation and excavation of the foundation trenches. Concrete footings were poured and blockwork was constructed up to DPC level to form the substructure. Precast concrete beams were then installed across the foundation walls, followed by concrete infill blocks to complete the suspended floor system before preparing the structure for the next stage of construction.

Groundworks on residential developments require precise setting-out and careful coordination with site levels, drainage and services. Accurate installation of the foundation layout and beam bearings ensured the block and beam system was installed safely and aligned correctly with the structural layout of the new homes.

The completed foundations and suspended block and beam floor system provided a strong, level base for the superstructure works, allowing the construction of the new homes to progress smoothly.
