Client Brief

The client wanted to significantly improve the ground floor living space and create a strong connection to the garden. The design included a large curved sun room with extensive glazing to maximise natural light, along with a new kitchen and supporting utility spaces. At the front of the property, a single-storey garage extension was also required to provide additional practical space while maintaining the appearance of the existing house.

Design, Planning and Scope of Works

Construction of a large single-storey rear extension incorporating a curved glazed sun room structure. Internal reconfiguration to form a new kitchen, utility room, gym and WC. Installation of full glazing systems across the curved elevation to create panoramic views of the garden. Construction of a single-storey garage extension to the front side of the property. Structural alterations to integrate the new spaces with the existing building. Full electrical, plumbing and heating installations, together with internal finishes and external works.

Construction Works

Works began with the foundations and structural framework for both the rear extension and the front garage extension. The curved sun room structure required careful setting out to achieve the sweeping form of the glazed elevation. Once the main structure was complete and weather-tight, internal works commenced including first fix services, insulation and partitions. The project then progressed through installation of the kitchen and internal spaces before glazing installation, finishing works and decoration.

Challenges and Solutions

The curved design of the sun room required precise structural setting out and coordination with the glazing system to achieve the continuous curved elevation. Integrating the new extension with the existing property while maintaining clean architectural lines also required careful detailing and sequencing of structural works.
