Client Brief

Droitwich Amateur Boxing Club required a new dedicated facility to support its growing membership and provide a modern training environment for the local community. The building needed to accommodate a full-size boxing training area alongside supporting facilities including offices, changing rooms, showers and toilets for athletes and coaches. The aim was to deliver a durable, functional building suitable for intensive daily training use. The club forms part of the grassroots boxing community in Droitwich Spa, where local sports clubs play an important role in community activity and youth development.

Design, Planning and Scope of Works

Construction of a new sports facility including pile foundations due to ground conditions on the site. Installation of reinforced concrete ground beams and foundation pads followed by erection of a structural steel frame. External envelope construction including brickwork walls, roofing and insulated cladding. Full internal works including flooring suitable for boxing training areas, installation of boxing rings, offices, toilets, showers and changing facilities, along with full electrical, heating and lighting installations.

Construction Works

The project began with specialist piling works to form the structural foundation system required for the building. Ground beams and reinforced concrete foundations were then installed before erection of the structural steel frame. Once the building structure was complete and weather-tight, internal works progressed including blockwork, services installation and preparation of the training space. The project concluded with installation of specialist flooring and boxing equipment along with completion of changing facilities and support areas.

Challenges and Solutions

The site conditions required a piled foundation solution, which added complexity to the early stages of construction. Careful coordination was required between piling works, ground beam installation and the steel frame erection to ensure the structure could be installed accurately and efficiently.
